247. Dua while hearing the adhaan #1

Narrated by 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), he said, The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: When the muazzin says "Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar", Then if any of you say “Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar; When the muazzin says "Ashhadu an laa ilaaha illallah", If he says "Ashhadu an laa ilaaha illallah"; When Muazzin says “Ashhadu Anna Muhammadar Rasoolullah, If he says "Ashhadu Anna Muhammadar Rasoolullah"; When the muazzin says "Haiya alas salah", If he says "Laa hawla wala quwwata illa billah"; When the muazzin says "Haiya alal falah", If he says "Laa hawla wala quwwata illa billah"; When the muazzin says "Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar", If he says "Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar", Then when the muazzin says "Laa ilaaha illallah", If he says "Laa ilaaha illallah" If he says these things from the heart, then he will go to Paradise.

248. Dua while hearing the adhaan #2

After uttering Mu'adhdhin Tashahhud (i.e. Ashhadu Anna Muhammadar ...) the listeners will say this dhikr -

اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَّا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهٗ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهٗ وَاَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهٗ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ ، رَضِيْتُ بِاللّٰهِ رَبًّا وَّبِمُحَمَّدٍ رَّسُوْلًا وَّبِالْاِسْلَامِ دِيْنًا

Transliteration: Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allahu wa'hdahu laa shareeka lahu wa anna mu'hammadan ‛abduhu wa rasooluhu, radeetu billaahi rabban wa bimu'hammadin rasoolan wa bil -islaami deen-an

Translation: I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger (ﷺ). I am pleased with Allah as a Lord, and Muhammad as a Messenger and Islam as a religion.

Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever hears Mu'adhzin and utters these words, all his sins will be forgiven."

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلٰى اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلٰى اِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلٰى اٰلِ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ، اِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ، اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلٰى اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلٰى اِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلٰى اٰلِ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ، اِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَجِيْدٌ

Transliteration: Allaahumma salli 'alaa Mu'hammadin wa 'alaa 'aali Mu'hammadin, kamaa sallayta 'alaa 'Ibraaheema wa 'alaa 'aali 'Ibraaheema, 'innaka Hameedun Majeed. Allaahumma baarik 'alaa Mu'hammadin wa 'alaa 'aali Mu'hammadin, kamaa baarakta 'alaa 'Ibraaheema wa 'alaa 'aali 'Ibraaheema, 'innaka Hameedun Majeed

Translation: O Allah, bestow Your favor on Muhammad (ﷺ) and on the family of Muhammad (ﷺ) as You have bestowed Your favor on Ibrahim (Ah) and on the family of Ibrahim (Ah), You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad (ﷺ) and the family of Muhammad (ﷺ) as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim (Ah), You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious.

Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When you hear the Mu'adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah; then beg from Allah al-Wasila for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah's servants, and I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila, he will be assured of my intercession.

250. Dua after the adhaan #2

اَللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّ هٰذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّآمَّةِ، وَالصَّلَاةِ الْقَآئِمَةِ، اٰتِ مُحَمَّدًا ࣘ الْوَسِيْلَةَ وَالْفَضِيْلَةَ، وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًامَّحْمُوْدًا ࣘ الَّذِىْ وَعَدْتَهُ

Transliteration: Allaahumma rabba haadhi-hid-da watit-taammah, wassalaatil-qaa’imah, aati mu'hammadan-il- waseelata wal-fadeelah, wab‛ath-hu maqaaman ma'hmoodan-illadhee wa‛adtah

Translation: O Allah, Owner of this perfect call and Owner of this prayer to be performed, bestow upon Muhammad (ﷺ) al-waseelah and al-fadeelah and raise him upon a praised platform which You have promised him.

251. The importance of making dua between Adhaan and Iqamah

Narrated Anas Ibn Malik (RA): The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Dua is not returned between Adhaan and Iqamah"

252. Answer to Iqamah

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whenever you hear the Adhaan, say what the Mu'adh-dhin is saying. The Prophet (ﷺ) called both Adhaan and Iqamah as Adhaan. [1]

Here is to be mentioned that, to reply 'Qaadaqaamatissalah' as 'Aqaamaha allahy wa aadaamahaa' - the hadith is weak (Da’eef) [2] So, for replying the iqaamah, the musalli should reply by using same words as the ad’aan.

253. Dua for Imam and Mu'adhdhin

Narrated Abu Hurayrah (RA): The imam is responsible and the mu'adhdhin is trusted.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَرْشِدِ الْاَئِمَّةَ وَاغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤَذِّنِيْنَ

Transliteration: Allaahumma arshidil a-immata wagfir lilmua-ddhinin

Translation: O Allah, guide the imams and forgive the mu'adhdhins.
